The Garden Club of Wilmington

History of The Garden Club of Wilmington

The Garden Club of Wilmington was founded in 1918 by a group of women who were active horticulturalists.  They were interested in gaining knowledge of and skill in gardening through study, experimentation, demonstration and competition within the Club.  In 1920 the club was admitted to membership in The Garden Club of America who purpose is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications, and to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

The Garden Club of Wilmington is thankful to have known Polly Hill for many years.  Per her obituary, in lieu of flowers, donations to The Polly Hill Arboretum Endowment, P. O. Box 561, West Tisbury, MA 02575, would be appreciated.
